About

The Index is a tool of the Thesaurus Linguae Latinae and allows users to identify and locate any attestation listed there. At the same time, it provides a concise overview of nearly all surviving Latin texts from antiquity. It was and continues to be compiled by the authors of the Thesaurus and is constantly being updated.

The new digital version of the Index was developed between August 2025 and May 2026 under the agreement signed in July 2024 between the Bayerische Akademie der Wissenschaften and Sapienza Università di Roma. The project combined technical redevelopment with scholarly revision, with the aim of improving access to the Index while integrating updates and corrections into a renewed digital environment.

Scientific supervision was provided by Michela Rosellini and Elena Spangenberg Yanes. The encoding implementation was carried out by Andrea Consalvi and Daniele Fusi, while the design and development of the new user interface were undertaken only by the former. Nigel Holmes and Marijke Ottink were responsible for revising and updating the Index. Josine Schrickx and Roberta Marchionni contributed as consultants on specific editorial and textual aspects of the project.

The new digital version of the Index is based on an earlier digital version developed by Ursula Welsch, Stefan Müller, and Daniel Schwarz at the BAdW using the text sources of the printed index.
